I emailed David Lemieux about this a while back with no response.

It appears that all of the Europe 72 SBDs have been taken down.

While I understand why the dead does this for their regular releases, I am still surprised they did this for the entire europe 72 tour. Maybe it was naive of me to think they'd leave em up. But plenty of us aren't financially capable of shelling out $450. While GDP does a lot for us and I am all for supporting them and do when I can, I'm a bit disappointed they did this.

Europe 72 gone + most of late 72 having poor recordings = Sad face...

My response to the Europe tour no longer available for streaming - in the words of "Seinfeld's" Newman, "What took ya so long?"

Honestly, for me the LMA isn't really a place I turn to anymore when I want to listen to Grateful Dead music. Hasn't been since late 2005, really. I don't really stream shows here, I pull out my CD copies or just listen to whatever I've got on either my internal or external hard drives. Though I do get auds here from time to time. Even then, I tend to just torrent those as well.

That said, this place is a huuuuuuuuge resource for us collector freaks and avid afficionados. I wouldn't even know where to begin discussing the impact this place has had, and continues to have. It is a shame that so many sources get pulled due to official release, especially when it's a Road Trips that only has like one or two songs from a show and the whole show gets yanked. I figured all of Europe would get yanked sooner than later. But the LMA still rocks. And at least they kept the reviews and ability to comment alive.

I'm wondering if we'll see the whole tour set circulate in pirate digital form. Well, not "if," more like "when." If I ever came across it I'd almost like to post the links to it on people's ebay pages that bought 10 of the box sets just so they could sell them for 5 times the original price. To me that's a much bigger crime and insult than pirating a 256k MP3 rip of the whole set or something.

I certainly don't condone any of those things, but I just wonder, who is gonna be *that guy* who maybe harmlessly makes some flac rips for his portable player, and somehow the whole thing winds up on some pirate torrent site? It's like the JFK assasination plot, it maybe started harmlessly as two guys joking around, musing on a different world. One thing leads to another, leads to a plan, next thing you know...

Anyway instead of someone "digitally liberating" the Europe box set, I'd almost like to see someone like "The Bus" put together the workingman's version of the tour and make a big torrent with the "best" of the circulating 2 tracks. Sortof the "reggie" version of the "kind" official release, as the kids today would say. Though really I wouldn't even need to download it, like probably 90% of people reading this.

Just because you can no longer stream these shows here, it does mean that they are unavailable to you!

Learn how to torrent. All the Europe '72 shows will still be available at the file sharing sites. No doubt vault remasters from the boxed set will be circulating soon.

There are also plenty of folks here who would gladly send you any music you'd like. All you have to do is ask...

Well get your stamps ready because I've been dying to find a SBD for 1986-07-06 and I know you're the guy to ask. lmao.

And yes you're right, just venting my sadness, certainly these shows are available and existing in even better quality.

What are your thoughts on that AUD only show (5/13?) after hearing it in much better quality?

hey wisco! I've got every euro '72 SBD in FLAC/SHN from etree that was available. I DLed them all as soon as I heard the streams would be pulled. Whenever we decide to get together this fall you're more than welcome to copy every one.

5/13/72 is Lille, France. Before the official release a super high quality but incomplete Miller remaster SBD was archived here, along with a very good quality Ladner SBD transfer that is missing a couple songs.

I've been too busy to thoroughly listen to the entire box but virtually every performance has been upgraded sonically. Several shows have additional songs included. The only exception being the Radio Lux (5/16/72) performance which is inferior to the FM/SBD.unknown.10353.sbeok.shnf, but that's just my opinion.
Even the two Paris shows sound better then the Masse and Miller transfers that were sourced from Honeymoon theft master reels.

The audience recording that you most likely are referring to is Hamburg (4/29/72) and the vault remaster blows away the Matt Vernon AUD.

I cant help you with any 80's shows. But if you really need these Euro '72 shows or any older stuff, just post your address or email and I'll glady send you anything that you are looking for...

Hi Cliff,

still haven't received mine yet (but that's my fault for living out in the boondocks!), however I have read 2-3 reports where listeners have suggested that Keith is a bit low in the mix. From what listening you have managed so far, can you confirm or deny this? OK, Jerry is/was/always will be the main man (apologies to Pigpen, Phil, Bob et al) but, to me at least, Europe '72 was all about the full juxtaposition with Keith being a main-player in the combination. I hope that, in their rush to accumulate more Yankee Dollar, they haven't up-cocked by letting him (Keith) sink too low in the mix.
Would appreciate your input.

I was expecting it, and as I still don't have the money together, I'm still saving. Plus the fact I live in England, I'm trying to decide whether to pay the extra shipping and customs to have it sent here, or save a little money and have it shipped to a brother or sister at home in the States to enjoy/copy until I get over there for a vacation to bring it back myself or one of them to bring it to me.

But on the subject of the SBDs here at LMA.. I knew it was coming, and had been enjoying to the last days, then watched them bit by bit getting pulled. Then my wife interfered with my happy days and told me to get off the internet. I was expecting that too. Ha ha. After all, they were my days off and it was my chill time, but had to get to some family time balance. Most of the shows I have on my external hard drives, but some of the better transfers are missing from my collection, so I was trying to compare, and very useful has been Cliff Hucker's reviews of the tour. Anyways, now I'm confined to my own collection, and I am also on to a Torrent of 4/8/72 at the moment. I've been trying to get this one for a couple weeks now, but no one's been seeding it, suddenly it has a seed today. So I could actually get the show in today if it keeps up. I've got Stepping Out, but of course that's a compilation, so looking forward to hearing the whole show again. I'm a sometimes-user of Torrents, but have not become an expert yet. They are pretty easy to use.

Like I said, I'm saving for my All the Music version of the box set, so if the river don't rise, and god's willing, I'll get it some fine day.

You just have to poke around....folks stop relying on corporations to get your fill of Grateful Dead, we were fortunate to have a network of folks who had the show for you within hours , I remember getting a killer AUD from the taper dude at the Hotel after an 88' Hampton Show , Chapel Hill 93 Healy offered us to plug into the Board. That spirit is still around as mentioned on blogs that people gladly share what they have, I was fortunate to get a boatload of Jer from a former site SA before it's demise. Share!

I would be very happy to get you the shows you want, I'd prefer not to post my email on here, if you would like to post yours I will send you an email to work out the details.

the Dead are by far the most generous band of all time. They can do anything they want and they will have still given me more than I could ever need. And as Cliff just demonstated theres no shortage of the generosity of our community either

Pulling the boards does seem rather pointless, I mean who didn't already have them?!!!

Highly unlikely to boost sales but more lame PR.

I don't have ALL of them and that's standard procedure for official releases. The way I see it is having all of the SBD's here even for streaming is a generous gift by the band

You and i see it the same way John.

I am glad they kept the reviews up. You may recall that much of E72 and a bunch of other shows disappeared from the archive for a while after they pulled the boards in 2005 and didn't reappear until the point when they started adding new transfers etc. When that happened the whole page was gone so even the reviews of show were no longer here. I like to read the reviews even if can't listen here.
